With the heat still high, West Hollywood has extended its “cooling center” at Plummer Park through Thursday. The cooling center, originally slated to close after Sunday, is in the Community Center Senior Lounge at Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. at Fuller.
The cooling center hours today through Thursday are 9 a.m.-7 p.m., according to a city press release. People using the cooling center are encouraged to bring quiet activities such as books or board games.
“High heat, coupled with low humidity, can make the weather dangerous as well as uncomfortable,” the press release said. “The city reminds residents and community members to take precautions to keep as cool as possible throughout the warm summer months. If possible, stay out of the sun; avoid strenuous activity; drink plenty of water; and wear lightweight clothing.”
This post was updated to reflect the cooling center being extended through Thursday.
Even though I have great heat tolerance enabling activity in 100 F weather, where as most people would experience Hyperthermia or even Hyperpyrexia, I like to drop by the cooling center as an opportunity to socialize and organize people while raising their social/political awareness!
