Matthew Ralston, a comedian who filed as a candidate for West Hollywood City Council in the 2013 election, has announced his intention to run again. Ralston has filed papers with the City Clerk’s office and now must present a petition with 20 to 30 signatures of registered West Hollywood voters to appear on the March 2015 ballot. Ralson’s only real campaign effort in 2013 was the production of the YouTube video above.
A more serious possible candidate is Yawar Charlie, a real estate agent with Engel & Volkers in Beverly Hills who was appointed to the city’s Historic Preservation Commission by Councilmember John Duran. Charlie is a former actor and the grandson of Noor Mohammed Charlie, a famous Indian actor. His parents, Latif and Masooma Charlie, are Pakastani television stars. Charlie has requested nomination papers from the City Clerk’s office but hasn’t yet filed as a candidate.
Another person who has requested nomination papers is John Allendorfer, an actor who has occasionally spoken on various issues at City Council meetings.
If Charlie and Allendorfer file, there will be a total of 15 possible candidates for the seats now occupied by incumbents John D’Amico and John Heilman, who have announced their candidacy for re-election, and for the seat occupied by Abbe Land, who has said she will not seek re-election. The deadline for filing as a candidate is Dec. 10.
Gee, this is exciting
