At least some people are likely to be happy that weather watchers are predicting an unnaturally warm 84 degree temperature in West Hollywood on Saturday.
They would be the participants in the annual “Cupid’s Undie Run.” And, of course, the spectators. As in years past, the event is expected to draw hundreds of people who will run in their underwear along a mile-long sidewalk course to raise money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
The meeting location for the event is The Abbey at 692 N. Robertson Blvd. south of Santa Monica. The route for the run is the perimeter of West Hollywood Park. Festivities will start at noon, and the run will begin at 2 p.m.
This is the third year that the city of West Hollywood has co-sponsored Cupid’s Undie Run. West Hollywood will be one of many locations nationwide to host runs, including cities such as Washington, DC, New York City, Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Orlando, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis and Detroit. In 2014, combined events raised more than $2.8 million. This year, event organizers have added eight additional cities, for a total of 38 locations.
Event organizers encourage participants to “fundraise their pants off!” All participants in Cupid’s Undie Run must be 21 or over. More information and a registration form is available online. If you are interested in helping out the cause, but you’re not keen on venturing outside in your skivvies, you can register as a “just fundraising” participant instead.
Event organizers encourage people to carpool and to use public transportation options, if possible. Paid public parking for Cupid’s Undie Run participants is available, subject to capacity, at West Hollywood Park’s five-story public parking structure at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. The following Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) bus lines connect to the City of West Hollywood: 105, 705, 4, 704, 217 and 218.
The Children’s Tumor Foundation is the world’s largest non-government organization dedicated to ending neurofibromatosis (NF) through research. NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, causing blindness, deafness, learning disabilities and severe chronic pain. Currently, there is no cure for NF. The foundation’s mission is to advance peer-reviewed research to develop treatments and cures for NF; support persons with NF and their families by making thorough and accurate information readily available; to assist in developing clinical centers and best practices to improve access to quality healthcare for those who live with NF; and expand public awareness of NF to improve diagnoses, increase understanding of the challenges that NF presents, and encourage support for NF research.
