A 16-year-old boy who went missing Friday after coming to Claremont from China with his mother to visit local colleges was found safe about noon today in West Hollywood, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
According to a broadcast report, Jin Wuwei was found sitting on a bench by himself at around 2 p.m. today in the 8400 block of Sunset Boulevard. No details were immediately available about what he had been doing over the weekend while authorities circulated his photo in the hope of finding him.
Wuwei was reported missing by his mother around 9:15 p.m. Friday after he left to walk to a nearby college and never returned, according to Claremont police Lt. Lori Davenport.
Wuwei and his mother arrived from Beijing last Wednesday and were touring local colleges, according to police. He had last been seen on security cameras walking away from the Claremont Lodge at 736 S. Indian Hill Blvd. at 12:42 p.m., Friday, according to Davenport.
Wuwei had departed with a backpack, several hundred dollars, a credit card and cell phone, according to his mother and police. The 16-year-old is fluent in English, his mother told police. But he does not have any family or friends in the area. His father came from China to help in the search, according to a broadcast report.
