The Lavender Effect is seeking donors to help it research and produce six to eight high-quality video interviews with people who played a key role in West Hollywood’s fight against HIV/AIDS from 1984 forward.

The campaign is part of Lavender Effect’s campaign to preserve and communicate the history of LGBTQ people, institutions and movements.

The stories will be part of a collection titled “Young City at War: Stories from West Hollywood during the AIDS Epidemic.”

A current list of potential interviewees for the archival collection includes Dr. Michael Gottlieb, the American physician known for the identification of AIDS; City Council member John Duran, known for successfully suing Los Angeles County for denying medication to inmates with HIV/AIDS, and Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the world’s largest non-governmental HIV/AIDS service organization. With sufficient funding, additional people will be filmed.

The Lavender Effect is hoping to raise $10,000 to match a grant offered by the city of West Hollywood to research and produce 6-8 high quality interviews. The project will be showcased at the West Hollywood Library in a new video archival collection as part of the West Hollywood 30th anniversary celebration, kicking off in October 2015. All gifts are tax-deductable.
