The West Hollywood City Council and the West Hollywood Women’s Advisory Board will present a Women’s Equality Day celebration and call to action today, commemorating the 95th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.
Guest speakers will include Lisa Bloom, NBC News legal analyst and civil rights attorney; and Gloria Allred, civil rights attorney and women’s rights advocate. The event will also feature video shorts and displays highlighting the accomplishments of the women’s rights movement, a photo booth and a “call to action” reception.
The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. south of Santa Monica.
Co-sponsoring organizations include the Feminist Majority, Ms. Magazine, the National Women’s History Museum, the California Women’s Law Center, the National Council of Jewish Women/Los Angeles, the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives, Peace Over Violence, Women In Film, the Hollywood Chapter of the National Organization for Women, the Women’s Film Institute and the West Hollywood Women’s Leadership Conference.
