A man was shot and killed outside the Comedy Store on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood early this morning.

According to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department the shooting occurred at about 12:49 a.m. “When homicide detectives arrived, they learned that the victim was standing in the patio area with a group of people in front of the Comedy Store,” said a statement from the Sheriff’s Department. “The suspect, a male black adult wearing a dark hoodie, walked up to the victim, produced a firearm and opened fire, striking the victim at least once in the upper torso. The suspect ran southbound on North Olive Drive and out of view.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

I saw a sheriffs car parked on Olive at Fountain but did not realize until got closer that he was guarding the crime scene. I am really surprised the sheriffs didn’t search my building and others if the suspect fled south on Olive.

We need more details, but this sounds like nothing that relates to threats to residents of the city in any meaningful way. I live two blocks below Sunset, and based on what we know, this doesn’t scare me, any more than Suge Knight being shot at 10 Oak did. Let’s not turn into a bunch of bedwetting cowards because of something like this.
