Does a town that has a new mayor every year need two? Well, if it’s Donovan Leitch we say “yes.”

The city has named Leitch, who plays Hedwig in the rock musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” as Honorary Mayor of the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval. That’s a distinction that should keep our official mayor, Jeffrey Prang, from getting nervous.

Leitch is the son of Donovan, a folk singer from the Sixties (ask your parents or some of those older city council members). He was the understudy for the original off-Broadway performances of “Hedwig,” the story of an East German transgender rock star and her search for love. He was the lead in a recent Los Angeles run of the play.

In his honorary role, Leitch will preside over Wednesday’s annual Halloween Carnaval, expected to attract 500,000 people to our tiny burg. The Carnaval will be held along Santa Monica Boulevard from La Cienega Boulevard to Doheny Boulevard from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. For a complete calendar of Halloween events, take a look at WEHOville.com
