West Knoll Drive near Santa Monica Boulevard was closed by sheriff’s deputies today as they responded to a report that a man barricaded in an apartment there was threatening to kill himself. Traffic also was backed up on Santa Monica Boulevard toward Beverly Hills.

The incident began about 10:10 a.m. in the 800 block West Knoll and was continuing early this afternoon, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No evacuations were ordered. Around 2 p.m. the man, who had threatened to shoot anyone who approached him, surrendered.

Deputies from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station were assisted by deputies from the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau and the Crisis Negotiation Team in resolving the incident. The deputies used the soon-to-open Shake Shack on Santa Monica Boulevard as their command center during the incident.

Can anyone confirm that the suspect was a retired 30 year Sherrif veteran?? I read several tweets that he is, yet this article and every BRIEF mention of this story on televised news stations don’t mention this. Why hasn’t his name been released? For a situation to involve so much law enforcement and chaos and with news coverage, why is this story so brief in facts and details??? Can anyone answer this?
