The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Services Detail will be conducting a DUI/driver license checkpoint between 6 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday at an undisclosed location within West Hollywood
Drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can expect penalties including jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
DUI checkpoints have been proven to reduce the number of people killed and injured in alcohol- or drug-involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20% when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
Over the course of the past three years in the contract cities policed by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, DUI collisions have claimed 33 lives and resulted in 898 crashes causing 1,330 injuries.
The California Office of Traffic Safety DDVIP (Designated Driver VIP) mobile app is now available for free download on iOS and Android devices. Those who are want to imbibe but also make it a point to plan ahead can easily order a ride from Uber, Lyft or Curb – all from one screen. Launched last year, the new DDVIP app offers features that allow users to “map a spot” with their current location to find DDVIP partners in their area or a participating bars and restaurants throughout California. Users are offered free incentives at each bar to celebrate.
