dui logoOnly an hour after WeHo’s bars closed Saturday night, a homeless man pushing a shopping card on Robertson Boulevard was hit by an allegedly drunk driver.

Lt. David Smith of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station said the incident happened at around 3 a.m. Sunday. Smith said the homeless man was taken to the hospital but is not in serious condition.

The driver fled the scene but was apprehended by Sheriff’s deputies. Smith said he was charged with driving under the influence and hit and run.

I think bartenders who continue to serve obviously inebriated people should have some culpability in the outcome. Letting some drunk walk out of a bar can only spell trouble, and at some point the bar has a responsibility in not allowing it to happen. Same thing should apply to hosts of parties not taking some action when a guest obviously loaded leaves your home to get into a car and either kill themselves or somebody else.

GOOD, that they caught this reckless drunk driver! There are so many after the bars close….yet, there are no Sheriff or Police force anywhere to be seen!? Why is this? Yes, in this instance there was a Sheriff in the area who caught the driver. I read before that there are no Police or Sheriff’s on duty in the streets around the bars between 2am-4am!!?? Is this true? That is when police force desperately needs to be present! Make no sense!
