WeHo Celebrates National Bike Month on Thursday

The City of West Hollywood is offering an early look at its bike share stations and refreshments to cyclists Thursday morning in celebration of May as National Bike Month. Thursday is Bike to Work Day.

The city will host the “WeHo Bike Hub” from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the sidewalk plaza at 8743 Santa Monica Blvd., near the intersection of Santa Monica and Hancock Avenue. It will provide a place for cyclists to gather, rehydrate,and refuel with snacks and refreshments.

cyclist, bicyclistThe WeHo Bike Hub will feature representatives from the city and the West Hollywood Bicycle Coalition, who will provide bike-safety information and materials. Bikes and Hikes LA will have a mechanic on hand to provide free mini-tune-ups. Vita Coco will distribute free boxed coconut water, and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will supply caffeinated beverages and pastries. Participants will be encouraged to upload photos and to provide social media updates with the hashtag #bikeweho.

A bike share station will be the location. The city hopes to launch the bike share program this Summer. The program and the demonstration will be operated by CycleHop. The program will let people find bike share bicycles near transit stops, businesses and other major destinations within the city. The system will also be linked to the Westside Regional Bike Share program, which includes the cities of Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, and will provide combined access to more than 1,000 bikes.

In celebration of Bike to Work Day, Metro is organizing numerous pit stops across Los Angeles County to support commuters and has many events planned throughout Los Angeles County throughout May for National Bike Month. More information is available online

During National Bike to Work Week, which runs through Saturday, Bikes and Hikes LA, located at 8743 Santa Monica Blvd., will be offering a 50% discount to West Hollywood and Los Angeles residents on used bikes.

From Sunday to May 28, several West Hollywood restaurants will offer a 10% discount to bicyclists during WeHo Bike Restaurant Week. Additional information about participating businesses is available at the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce website.
