A stolen construction vehicle crashed into the front of the Mail Boxes & Things store at 8424 Santa Monica Blvd. at Croft this morning.

L.A. County firefighters and Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at about 4 a.m. No injured person was discovered and the driver apparently escaped.  The truck had been stolen a short time earlier from where it was parking on Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards, according to a Sheriff’s deputy.

The building suffered serious damage and building inspectors have been summoned.

I walked by the site this afternoon and noticed that the ATM machine was in pieces at the corner of the taped-off area. Since the truck was stolen, it seems to me that the whole purpose of the crash was a probable heist of the ATM machine? The driver escaped, and I assume he took off with the cash from the ATM? Just sayin’. I think the whole thing was planned and deliberate. Crime everywhere, and thieves are becoming more and more bold, despite any collateral damage. They don’t care.

The truck looks like one of the City of West Hollywood trucks I see every morning going eastbound on Santa Monica Bl. along with a couple other trucks. I was wondering what happened when I was walking westbound on the north side of the street around 7:00AM.

How many more accidents on SMB in weho have action taken to make our lives, collectively, be in less danger of being the next innocent pedestrian? On a… Read more »
