Firefighters responded to two incidents in West Hollywood today. One was a fire in a dumpster in an apartment building on Laurel Avenue. The fire sent smoke up a trash chute but no one was injured and no significant damage occurred.
A more serious incident occurred about 1:20 p.m. at 7530 Hampton Ave. Firefighters arrived to find fire and smoke isolated to a mattress in one apartment unit. The firefighters pulled the mattress out of the building and extinguished the fire in approximately 10 minutes. Both West Hollywood Fire Stations 7 & 8 responded along with Beverly Hills Fire and Los Angeles City Fire. Beverly Hills Fire Department assisted with providing coverage at West Hollywood stations until other county fire department resources could be brought in to provide coverage for the city. As a result of the fire, one family has been displaced.
