A man denied access to the Peppermint Club on Beverly Boulevard Saturday night responded with gunfire.

According to Radar Online, the man was turned away because he presented a fake I.D. and then returned to its parking lot with a gun and began firing into the air. Lt. David Smith of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station said the man was angry because the parking valet would not return his payment. The man was described as Caucasian with blond dreadlocks and a tattoo on his face.

The incident got the attention of celebrity websites because Liam Payne, 23, an English singer and songwriter formerly with the band One Direction, was inside the club when the shooting occurred. While Payne wasn’t anywhere near the actual gunfire, the celebrity gossip sites portrayed it more dramatically. ” Liam Payne Barely Avoided A Terrifying Shooting At A Los Angeles Night Club!,” said a headline on one story.

The Peppermint Club, which is owned by the h.wood group, is located at 8713 Beverly Blvd. near North Sherbourne Drive in a space formerly occupied by Hooray Henry’s.
