Nearly half of West Hollywood’s residents are under the age of 40. Yet many younger people in the city are not actively engaged in local decision-making. That’s the challenge the city hopes to address with “NextGen: Civic Impact for West Hollywood’s Next Generation.”
The event, which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Andaz Hotel, 8401 Sunset Blvd., “will highlight opportunities to get involved in City Advisory Boards and Commissions, to get connected through the City’s informative social media, and to work or do business with the City,” according to a city announcement of the event.
While the focus is on younger residents, the event is open to all. It will include food and drinks and music. Those who want to attend can RSVP online.
NextGen is part of an effort by City Councilmember Lindsey Horvath to encourage younger people to become involved in civic activities. Horvath, 34, is the youngest member of the City Council. She has been an advocate for policies to make West Hollywood an “age-friendly community” for people of all ages.
Again, I applaud your efforts! Let me just remind you, if I may, that there are many new and bright ideas being born in the brains of our less than NextGen residents.
