The City of West Hollywood has launched Go Solar West Hollywood, a city-sponsored program that provides property owners with access to online resources to make informed decisions about switching to solar energy. The new program provides residential and commercial property owners with comprehensive information about solar options. Details about the program are available by visiting the city’s Go Solar website at www.gosolarwesthollywood.org.
“One of the City of West Hollywood’s most important core values is responsibility for the environment,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. “The city’s Go Solar program will assist residents and businesses in our community to connect to solar services, and that will help our city build on its current efforts to reduce our impact on the environment.”
West Hollywood’s Go Solar program has been developed in partnership with EnergySage, which is an online solar marketplace that connects property owners with a network of more than 350 prescreened solar installers. This makes comparison-shopping for solar simple and transparent, so property owners can understand the true costs and benefits of each quote across all of the financing options. Visitors to the Go Solar website can learn how solar works for a variety of home types and commercial properties.
The city will shed some light on the Go Solar program with a series of “Sunshine Pop-Ups” that will take place throughout West Hollywood in July. Staff members will provide answers to questions that community members may have about the program.
Sunshine Pop-Ups will take place, as follows:
• Monday, July 10 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Helen Albert Farmers’ Market at Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. (Vista Lot, off of Vista Street at Fountain Avenue);
• Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd.;
• Tuesday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. adjacent to Fatburger, located at 7450 Santa Monica Blvd. (at Vista Street);
• Thursday, July 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. adjacent to Trader Joe’s, located at 7310 Santa Monica Blvd. (at Fuller Avenue);
• Wednesday, July 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. at West Hollywood City Hall (lobby), located at 8300 Santa Monica Blvd. at Sweetzer; and
• Thursday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at West Hollywood City Hall (lobby), located at 8300 Santa Monica Blvd.
Additional pop-up dates and locations will be announced for August.
As part of the Go Solar West Hollywood program, the city will offer a solar advisor program, which will assist owners of multifamily properties, condominium buildings, and commercial properties to address the complexities of implementing a solar project in situations where there may be multiple owners or tenants. In 2011, the city released its climate action plan, which is designed to address climate change and reduce the community’s greenhouse gas emissions at the local level. Although climate change is a global problem, the city recognizes that many strategies to adapt to a changing climate are best enacted at the local level. The city’s climate action plan outlines a series of actions that West Hollywood is taking to reduce its contributions to global climate change by reducing GHG emissions.
