The Best of WeHo: Fitness (a West Hollywood Passion)

West Hollywood’s best dive bar? WeHo’s best sushi restaurant? Our city’s best barbershop, pet boarding place, Pilates studio? These are among the many categories we included on WEHOville’s Best Of ballot in August. The online voting turnout was great (and monitored by us geeks to make sure we weren’t being trolled — i.e. Putin didn’t vote, only you did).

We published the results in West Hollywood Magazine, our quarterly print publication, which was out last week and which you can find in news racks, restaurants and shops around the city. Today we will publish the second of five overall ballot categories, which include Best Beauty & Grooming, Best Dining, Best Fitness, Best Nightlife and Best Pet Supplies & Services. Congratulations to all of the local businesses who won “Best Of” and to those immediate runner ups. We’ll be back next year with even more business categories. And if you want to find the Best Dining choices, click here.

Training Mate LA

Looking for a gym or fitness studio in West Hollywood? Who isn’t? And the good news is it’s not hard to find one. But what’s the best?

Training Mate got its start in 2009 in Sydney, Australia. Founder Luke Milton drew on his professional rugby background and the power of positivity to work with his clients. In 2013, he brought Training Mate to the
United States.

Training Mate offers circuit-based, 45-minute high intensity interval training. You mix it up as no class is the same.

“It’s become a community – a place where you can meet new mates and feel at home away from home – all while getting amazing physical results,” says Training Mates (and by the way, “mates” means buddies in the Land of Oz.)

Schedules for Training Mate’s variety of classes are available on its website.

As much as I like WEHOville this seem like a bit much. It’s like free advertising and it should be an op/ed article. I recently cancelled my Crunch membership. I was one of the first 100 members to join the Sunset location. But the Gym in my building (Avalon) has better equipment than crunch and more experienced and skilled trainers. The “Best Of” should come from the input of the customers. BTW: your muscles do not react any differently no matter what gym you are in or what trainer is look down at you.

The choices are those of WeHoans who voted in the Best Of contest. Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so, sometimes, are other qualities. Hope you vote next year!
