Jeffrey Prang, the former longtime West Hollywood City Council member who now is the Los Angeles County Assessor, was recognized by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors yesterday for “pioneering innovation in assessment administration and for working to ensure excellence in service to the public.”

“Congratulations to Assessor Jeffrey Prang and the Office of the Assessor for this tremendous accomplishment,” said L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis.

Solis was referring to the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) award of the certificate of excellence to the Assessor’s Office on Sept. 27, making it the first and only jurisdiction in California to receive this prestigious award.

“The IAAO certificate of excellence is a reflection on the entire county family and the work we do on behalf of our constituents,” Solis said in an announcement of the Board of Supervisors’ recognition of Prang. “This award recognizes the county’s shared commitment to the highest standard of public service.”

“I am proud to accept this commendation on behalf of the more than 1,300 employees who make up the Assessor’s Office,” Prang said. “I especially want to thank the Board of Supervisors and the Chief Executive Office for supporting our ongoing efforts to make this the premier property assessment agency in the nation.”

The IAAO certificate of excellence “is awarded to agencies that integrate best appraisal and administration practices and meet the highest professional standards as established by the IAAO,” according to an announcement of the award. “… Worldwide, a mere 41 jurisdictions have earned this distinction out of over 18,000.
During Prang’s tenure as Assessor, the office has been recognized by a range of other organizations, including Government Technology magazine, the National Association of Counties, and Los Angeles County’s Quality and Productivity Commission.”

Prang took office as Assessor in December 2014 after stepping down from his seat on the West Hollywood City Council. Prang was first elected to the Council in 1997 and was re-elected to successive four-year terms in 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2013. He has announced that he is running for re-election for the Assessor’s seat.

How timely for those of us who still remember the $30,000 payment that West Hollywood made to the city worker in Portland that Mr Prang admitted sexually harrasing back in 1999. Mr Prang “took full responsibility”, but of course never reimbursed the city. Good times, Jeff, good times. Be thankful for short memories.
