Many West Hollywood residents will experience power outages over the next five months as Southern California Edison makes improvements to the electric grid.

The work is expected to begin in April and continue through August on weekdays and some weekends.

A notification from SoCal Edison says it “will be upgrading underground cable, installing new underground infrastructure, pole replacements and replacing electrical equipment to decrease duration of outages and improve overall circuit reliability.

In addition to the power outages, residents may experience traffic lane and sidewalk closures.

SoCal Edison recommends that residents find a way to manually operate security gates or garage doors that might not operate during a power outage. It also suggests residents keep block of ice inside refrigerators and freezers. And residents who depend on electric-powered life support systems should have a backup power system.

Resident can sign up at sce.com/outage for alerts about the disruptions.

Might behoove us to complain at City Council meetings and insist they intervene with So Cal Edison!

We’re just as dependent on electricity, and now have no means to get any kind of advance notice of outages. That means food could unexpectedly spoil, and other problems could occur simply because Southern California Edison is too stingy to send an email or text message.… Read more »

So I’m paying $2600 a month for my apartment only to have to keep a block of ice in the fridge for my food?!

This might be a good time to point out that those of us with solar panels, inverters and, deep cycle batteries: are completely unaffected by this! 🙂

“Keep block of ice inside refrigerators and freezers” (???)

Uh, just how long is each of these “outages” supposed to last, a day and a half?

If SCE does indeed do a decent job of alerting us about these outages ahead of time, then this will be bearable.

Uber just heard about this and are planning to revive old fashioned ice trucks so folks can get an app and have a block of ice delivered during power outages. Probably batteries as well.
We can now snooze through anything!

So today was a test-run?

Weird when all seems so well.

Thank you for the crucial flash.
