The City of West Hollywood will host a community tree planting event in recognition of National Arbor Day on Saturday, Earth Day Weekend.

The event will take place at 9 a.m. at Plummer Park’s Russian Veterans Memorial, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd. Three trees of varying species will be planted.

West Hollywood community members are encouraged to take part in the event. Volunteers need no prior landscaping or gardening experience. Tools and gloves will be on-hand and supervision and instruction will be provided. The event will start off with a short “how-to” planting session, followed by a discussion about the importance and value trees play in our urban environment.

Arbor Day was founded in 1872 by newspaper editor and politician J. Sterling Morton, in Nebraska City, Neb. It has since expanded and is now celebrated around the world as a day to plant and care for trees.

For additional information, call the city’s Department of Public Works at (323) 848-6895. People who are deaf or hard of hearing can call TTY (323) 848-6496.

It will be nice when West Hollywood FINALLY does something with our park. The city has allowed one block to hold the entire neighborhood hostage! Will there be any money LEFT after West Hollywood Park?
