The City of West Hollywood and Los Angeles creative agency Wondros will host an evening of storytelling on Saturday, June 16, to share reflections that will inform the design of the West Hollywood AIDS Monument, built by the not-for-profit Foundation for the AIDS Monument.
The evening will also serve as the public launch of a dedicated website for people in the greater Los Angeles area to post their personal stories. The stories will ultimately become part of an archive to preserve the remembrances of all who have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The event will take place at 5 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 625 N San Vicente Blvd.
• It will be moderated by Rocco Kayiatos, visual editor of Into, a website published by Grindr. The featured guest will be Daniel Tobin, the creator of the AIDS Monument design. Other speakers will be Mayor John Duran; City Councilmember John D’Amico; Dr.Phill Wilson, president and CEO of the Black AIDS Institute; Rev. Dr. Steve Pieters, a long-term survivor of AIDS and one of two survivors of the notorious suramin trials in 1985, and Karen Ocamb, an editor at the Los Angeles Blade.
