Tonight West Hollywood’s Congregation Kol Ami will host an evening of prayer and remembrance in honor of the 11 people murdered on Saturday at a Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh.
The incident, which occurred at the Tree of Life Synagogue, is one of the deadliest anti-Semitic attacks in American history. Official flags in the City of West Hollywood were at half staff yesterday as an acknowledgement of the attack.
“We are all still reeling from the events in Pittsburgh which murdered eleven members of the Jewish People and harmed many more including four police officers,” said an announcement of the event.
“We want to offer an opportunity for our Congregation Kol Ami community to come together to support one another and connect with one another in our sacred space. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors to join with you in this moment of solace, comfort and hope. All are welcome.”
The event runs from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The synagogue is located at 1200 N. La Brea Ave., just north of Lexington.
Coongregation Kol Ami celebrated its 25th anniversary last year. Kol Ami was founded by members of the LGBTQ community in Los Angeles at a time when the gay community was socially marginalized. It is led by Rabbi Denise Eger with Assistant Rabbi Max Chaiken.
