Demolition on San Vicente Side of West Hollywood Park to Begin Wednesday

The City of West Hollywood has announced that it will begin early demolition work of the public area along San Vicente Boulevard of West Hollywood Park on Wednesday. In order to maintain an accessible path of travel from San Vicente Boulevard to the pool area, this work will be performed in two phases.

Phase one of the demolition will begin with the concrete seating on the north end of the public seating area being removed. Construction fencing will be installed in this area prior to and throughout the course of work. Public safety officers will be on site to ensure safe access to park facilities. This phase is expected to take approximately ten business days to complete.

Phase two will begin immediately after the completion of phase one. Phase two includes demolition of the concrete sidewalk, seating, wall, adjacent foliage and the pool gate. This phase also includes installation of fencing north of the Tiny Tot trailer. Construction fencing will be installed prior to and throughout the course of work.

West Hollywood Library and its adjacent five-story public parking garage will remain open and accessible from North San Vicente Boulevard throughout construction, and parking is free for one hour in the garage.

The city began construction of the forthcoming Aquatic and Recreation Center in March 2017. Construction is part of West Hollywood Park Master Plan Phase II improvements. Safety fencing has been added to impacted areas and West Hollywood Park will remain open throughout construction. Every existing park facility will continue to be open until after each new improvement is completed and available.

Construction at West Hollywood Park is anticipated to last through 2020. The city and its partners in the effort are working to minimize impacts on park users, on local residents, and on surrounding businesses. Construction fences will ensure safety in and around construction areas and large expanses of the park will remain open for use. All area businesses remain open as usual.

The Aquatic and Recreation Center, when completed, will feature two rooftop swimming pools and a multi-sport court that will accommodate a variety of sports such as basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball. It will also feature five community meeting rooms and one conference room, recreation staff offices, a Tiny Tot program classroom, a public access television studio, lockers, and additional parking. Park improvements will add small and large dog parks (which are completed and open), expanded green spaces, updated children’s playgrounds, and an AIDS Monument.
