Things You Can Do to Commemorate MLK Jr. Day

The City of West Hollywood will provide two opportunities for community members to make an impact to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is on Saturday.

The opportunities include:

A clothing drive at the City Council Chambers for donations of new and used clothing and accessories to the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Youth Center on Highland.  Donations will be accepted from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Chambers, located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.  The Youth Center in greatest need of all adult sizes of new or lightly used dress clothes such as pants, shirts, suits, belts; shoes (men’s 7-13, women’s 6-12, with the shoes tied together); jeans; jackets; coats;  ponchos (for all weather); hoodies; sweats; t-shirts and brand new packages of socks and underwear along with travel-sized hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, shaving items, etc.); granola bars; $5 gift cards for Target, and food/grocery store gift cards.

Free Cityline Commuter Special Service, which will run between the West Hollywood Library and  the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland for Metro Red Line transportation to the Women’s March in Downtown Los Angeles.

Free transportation to the Metro Red Line’s Hollywood and Highland station for those who want to go to Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles for the Women’s March. Cityline Commuter, the city’s free, ADA accessible mini-bus, will operate extended hours on Saturday (Jan. 19) to assist community members in easily getting to and using the Metro Red Line. The Women’s March will take place in downtown Los Angeles from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cityline will run at 15-minute intervals (times are approximate) starting at 7:15 a.m. at the West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., with the last shuttle leaving at approximately 8:45 a.m. Parking is available at the five-story parking structure adjacent to the library. Additional stops will also be made along Santa Monica Boulevard. Returns from Hollywood and Highland will depart at 1:30, 2:15, 3:30, and 4:15 p.m. A final timetable will be posted on the city’s website at www.weho.org/cityline.
