Mark Olmsted, who had been diagnosed with HIV in the early 1980s, was living on Willoughby Avenue in West Hollywood in 2003. That’s when he began “a scheme to live out his last years in style—swiping credit cards, bilking insurance companies, even faking his own death,” chronicled in a recent story in GQ magazine that one can read online here.

Was he really HIV positive? Is the article saying, that the devastation of him being Positive, played a roll in him turning to criminal behavior? I’m a bit confused.
