Nov. 9-16: AFI Fest Features LGBT-Themed Films

“New Deep South: House of JXN”

American Film Institute’s AFI Fest will feature several LGBT-themed films screened in the heart of Hollywood at locations such as the TCL Chinese Theatre, the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre, Dolby Cinema at the Vine, the Mark Goodson Screening Room at the American Film Institute and the Hollywood Roosevelt. Free tickets will be available on AFI.com/AFIFEST beginning Nov. 1.

The films include:

— “Call Me by Your Name,” a new film from Sony Pictures Classics by Luca Guadagnino, is a tale of first love based on the novel by André Aciman. It’s the summer of 1983 in the north of Italy, and Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet), a precocious 17-year-old American-Italian boy, spends his days in his family’s 17th-century villa, transcribing and playing classical music, reading and flirting with his friend Marzia (Esther Garrel). One day, Oliver (Armie Hammer), a charming American scholar working on his doctorate, arrives as the annual summer intern tasked with helping Elio’s father. Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of a summer that will alter their lives forever.

— “A Fantastic Woman (Una Mujer Fantastica),” Sebastián Lelio’s follow-up to “Gloria,” features trans actress Daniela Vega as a woman navigating a hostile society after the death of her lover. Directed by Sebastián Lelio.

And the following shorts:

— “House of Jxn” — A glimpse into the dance clubs and Rainbow families of Jackson, Miss, directed by Rosie Haber.

— “How’s Your Prostate?” — A discussion between two girlfriends, directed by Jeanne Paturle.

— “Islands (Les Iles)” — Three characters wander through an erotic maze of love and desire. Directed by Yann Gonzalez.

— “Still Devout” — An anxious 23-year-old, still living at home, must choose between romance and the needs of her family. Directed by Melissa Perez.
