The City of West Hollywood has released the final episode of Season 2 of its YouTube series “The WeHoans,” with a focus on nightlife safety.
In this final episode, drag sensation Willam Belli finds himself with security and law enforcement at a local bar. The episode’s campy comedy is tempered with important nightlife safety messages. Importantly, the episode concludes with a serious message from Willam in which he offers viewers tips about preventing sexual assault.
Season 2 of The WeHoans consists of four episodes in total, which are centered on serious themes concerning preparedness and safety, nighttime safety, crimes of opportunity, and sexual assault prevention. Episodes 1 and 2 focus on preparedness for earthquakes and other disasters. Episodes 3 and 4 touch upon the themes of nighttime safety, crimes of opportunity, and sexual assault prevention. The short series launched on Oct. 19 for the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill and preparedness effort. Episode 1 is available at https://youtu.be/tnA40uYrTV4, episode 2 is at https://youtu.be/1rQp-AD3a4g, and episode 3 is at https://youtu.be/FI_Ox0L65Mc.
The WeHoans is a parody of the popular Saturday Night Live skit “The Californians” in which soap opera-like characters in platinum blonde wigs hilariously describe in hyper-detail how to navigate the freeways and streets of Southern California. The WeHoans aims to deliver serious messages wrapped in a humorous and entertaining format. Season 2 episodes serve as part of a multi-faceted public safety awareness campaign that blends with the City of West Hollywood’s “Live, Work, Play, Be Safe” campaign on key public safety issues that launched in December 2016.
Season 1 of The WeHoans debuted in August 2015 to raise community awareness about a temporary closure of La Cienega Boulevard for construction and improvements. Historical episodes of The WeHoans can be viewed on Willam Belli’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/2qnFyYD6vgg.
