Woman arrested for car theft being put in Sheriff’s vehicle (Photo ANG News)
At approximately 1:15 a.m. today, West Hollywood Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported carjacking at the car wash located at Santa Monica Boulevard and Martel near Plummer Park.
Deputies arrived and were told by a man that a woman had stolen his minivan. Deputies found the vehicle in Hollywood and a pursuit ensued. As she raced away, the woman driving the van, who was said to be homeless, struck another vehicle at Figueroa Street and Pico Boulevard before she stopped at the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at Figueroa and Adams.
She was taken into custody without further incident. The West Hollywood Sheriff’s station is handling the investigation.

That whole sentence oozes of CLASSIC degrading stereotypes. Their ethnicity has NOTHING to do with the crime. The naming of a nearby CHICKEN joint had NOTHING to do with the crime. It did, however, play the racist stereotype, right on target.
I agree with you that there was no need to identify the woman by race, and going forward WEHOville will not do that unless the story involves a search for a person or suspect, in which case ethnicity is relevant. (The woman’s race has been removed from the story). The location is relevant, however, and I don’t understand how a Louisiana-themed restaurant can be considered racist.

I and pretty much everyone I tell about this article are very disgusted with how this was written. “who was black” Was it necessary for the story to tell us she was black? Would you have said the same thing if she was white? Or are you unaware of the systemic racism that sits below the surface of our society, and clearly in your heart and mind? Not only are you telling us that she doesn’t belong in WEHO because she’s black, but you’re also instructing the audience to fear and be on the lookout for anyone that is black.… Read more »
