If you’re looking to engage in some boisterous conversation over who’s likely to be the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2020 presidential election, there are two places in West Hollywood happy to host you for the Tuesday and Wednesday night debates.
The Rocco’s the bar (and restaurant) on the southwest corner of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards will be one of five places in Greater Los Angeles to host a public viewing of the Tuesday debate.
The debate will begin at 5 p.m. If you want to watch it from home, it will be a televised by CNN. It will be streamed — without requiring log-in to a cable provider — on CNN.com, across mobile devices via CNN’s apps for iOS and Android, and via CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Chromecast and Android TV.
Tuesday’s debate will feature 10 of the 20 candidates who either have registered 1% support in three qualified polls or have 65,000 unique donors to their campaign, including a minimum of 200 donors in each of at least 20 states.
A draw determined whether candidates would debate on Tuesday or Wednesday. The draw formula used by CNN guaranteed that two of the top four candidates and five of the top 10 would be on the same stage.
The candidates’ positions on the stage at the Fox Theatre in Detroit was determined by public polling numbers, with the top candidates at the center. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders will be in the middle Tuesday.
Other candidates in Tuesday’s debate who will be to the left of Sanders and Warren are e author Marianne Williamson; Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan; Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Those on the right of Sanders and Warren will be former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke; former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper; former Maryland Rep. John Delaney, and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock.
On Wednesday, the Abbey Bar and Restaurant at 692 N. Robertson Blvd., just south of Santa Monica, will host viewers of the second debate. It will feature the final 10 of the 20 candidates who have met the Democratic Party’s debate criteria.
That debate will feature former Vice President Joe Biden and California Sen. Kamala Harris flanked by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, businessman Andrew Yang, and former HUD Secretary Julian deCastro.
