The City of West Hollywood and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) Master of Arts (MA) program in Aesthetics and Politics present the West Hollywood Aesthetics and Politics lecture series (WHAP!). This series features events that range from political debates to film screenings and performances, as well as conversations about art, architecture, and philosophy. This month, WHAP! will host Michael Nylan, Ph.D. speaking on the theme “pleasure as praceial, not a goal.” S

Nylan began her teaching career at Bryn Mawr College where she founded and led the major in East Asian Studies. While there she also began to learn political philosophy from Steven Salkever, an Aristotle expert. Now she writes in three main academic disciplines: the history of early China (roughly 300 BC-AD 300), early Chinese philosophy, and the art and archaeology of China.

This event is open to the public and no RSVP is required. It takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the community meeting room at West Hollywood Library, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. For more information, please contact Joy Tribble at (323) 848-6360 or jtribble@weho.org.
