There have been 96 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 infection in West Hollywood as of noon today, an 11.6% increase over yesterday’s count of 86. That means that one of every 384 residents has been confirmed to be infected. However, health experts predict that 25% to 50% of those infected may not know it because they haven’t yet exhibited symptoms.
As of today, West Hollywood appears to tie with Hancock Park in a ranking of the 335 cities, unincorporated areas and City of Los Angeles neighborhoods tracked by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The Health Department’s daily count shows Hancock Park with 45 confirmed infections, which it says is a ratio of 273.79 infections per 100,000 residents. It calculates West Hollywood as having 268.17 infections per 100,000 people. (The Health Department uses older Census data than the 2018 projection that WEHOville uses to calculate the percentage of those infected.)
The Health Department reports that there are now 6,910 confirmed infections across all of Los Angeles County. That is an increase of 8.6% over the 6,360 infections reported as of yesterday. Of those infected, 169 have died, up from a total of 147 on Monday. “Twenty-one of the people who died had underlying health conditions and 16 people were over the age of 65,” the Health Department reported. “Six people who died were between the ages of 41 and 65 years old and one of these individuals did not have underlying health conditions.”
Adjacent cities and neighborhoods also saw a rise today in confirmed infections. The total in Beverly Hills was 70, up from 65 confirmed on Sunday. Culver City had 29 confirmed infections, up from 27 reported on Sunday. (Neither of those cities had an additional confirmed infection on Monday). The Melrose neighborhood had 164 confirmed infections as of noon today, up from 147 confirmed on Monday. The Hollywood neighborhood had 104 confirmed infections as of noon today, up from 100 on Monday.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has predicted that the number of infections will continue to rise before they hit a peak and begin to level off. “It’s coming,” Garcetti said at a news conference on March 24. “The peak is not here yet. The peak will be bad. People will lose their lives.”
In response to the increase in infections, the Health Department has expanded the number of drive-up testing sites. Currently there are 11 sites in the county, with another three scheduled to open this week. City Manager Paul Arevalo has said that West Hollywood is working with the Health Department to create a testing site in or near West Hollywood. People who want to get tested can apply testing online and must have symptoms of the infection. The requirement that one also be 65 or older, or have underlying health conditions, or be quarantined because of COVID-19 exposure has been lifted.
The Health Department continues to remind residents that the best way to avoid an infection “is to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid being around sick people, practice physical distancing, especially by staying at home and wearing a face covering when out procuring or providing essential services.”
The Health Department also remind people: If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days and until 72 hours after being fever and symptom free. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.

Not shocked. We’ve all seen people at the grocery store standing too close to each other at the register, not giving way while passing on the sidewalk, gathering at the dog park, etc.
Wehoville- The sensational headlines are getting tiresome. Would be nice to see an attempt at positive coverage.
How common is the use of hydroxychloroquine (with zinc) in the treatment of patients in LA?
Hope city hall considers placing a face mask in next years emergency preparedness kits.
Maybe you should read this story on wehoVille that explains why face masks aren’t very important unless your treating a sick person with the virus. https://staging.wehoville.com/2020/04/07/opinion-lets-not-let-fear-trump-facts-during-the-covid-19-pandemic/
Dear Mr. Eason, Face masks or other coverage are a relatively inexpensive items that have advantages in decreasing possible contaminants to others but more importantly show a consciousness of effort and a degree of seriousity in deterring the abilities of this virus to grow exponentially. Other than that, it is common sense, something that multitudes of people are either deficient in or in denial about. Are you willing to listen to a gaggle of uninformed geese or use better instincts and do your own serious research? The next step would be using this time in hibernation for some introspection about… Read more »
Yes and I think West Hollywood should advise people to wear masks even when walking around their apartment buildings which we have a lot of in Weho. We have not heard much of substance from Weho leadership which is not acceptable. If you don’t want to lead in a crisis and actually DO something, don’t take these public offices. I don’t agree with the other comment that masks aren’t effective because I have read many articles from China and Other countries about how the only people in certain areas (when someone was found to have the virus) near them who… Read more »
