Ninety-eight West Hollywood residents have been confirmed to be infected with the COVID19 virus as of noon today according to a report from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, That is an increase of two from the 96 confirmed cases as of Tuesday. Now one in every 376 WeHo residents is known to be infected.
The Health Department reports that there are now 7,530 confirmed infections across all of Los Angeles County. That is an increase of 2% over the 6,910 infections reported on Tuesday. A press release from the Health Department states that “Twenty-two of the people who died had underlying health conditions and 17 people were over the age of 65. One of the individuals over the age of 65 did not have underlying health conditions. Seven people who died were between the ages of 41 and 65 years old and two of these individuals did not have underlying health conditions. One person was between the ages of 18 to 40 years old and had underlying health conditions. Three deaths were reported by the City of Long Beach and one death by the City of Pasadena.”
West Hollywood continues to be, on a per capita basis, one of the most infected of the 335 cities and communities covered by the Health Department report. The Little Armenia neighborhood, with 22 confirmed cases, is the most highly infected as of today. The Health Department reports that 274.1 of every 100,000 residents has been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19. Hancock Park comes just behind Little Armenia. Its 45 infections mean that 264.1 of every 100,000 residents has the infection.
In response to the increase in infections, the Health Department has continued to expand the number of drive-up testing sites. Currently there are 12 sites in the county, with others scheduled to open this week. People who want to get tested can apply testing online and must have symptoms of the infection. Those symptoms include coughing, a fever, tiredness and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing..
The most important steps people can take to protect themselves from the virus are to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoid being around sick people, practice physical distancing, especially by staying at home and wearing a face covering when out buying groceries or medicince or providing essential services.
The Health Department also remind people: If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days and until 72 hours after being fever and symptom free. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.
