The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in West Hollywood today increased by one, bringing the total to 189. The count had been steady at 188 since Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health today reported 1,523 new confirmed infections countywide, which brings the totally number of confirmed infections in the county to 63,844. The Health Department today confirmed 25 new COVID-19-related deaths, with a total of 2,645 in the county thus far.

The Health Department’s online city/community database, which yesterday reported that 3,680 West Hollywood residents have been tested for the virus and four have died, today was not working.

As of today, the number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills has increased by one to 147.  In Culver City the number of confirmed infections increased by two to 164. The number of infections in the Hollywood neighborhood has increased by seven to 302.  Confirmed infections in the Melrose neighborhood increased by 15 to a total of 635.

The Health Department continues to urge people who have symptoms of COVID-19 to get tested. “COVID-19 testing continues to be prioritized for hospitalized patients, healthcare workers, and first responders with symptoms, as well as residents and employees, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, in long-term care facilities or other congregate living settings where there are outbreaks.”

It said that it recommends testing for anyone who is older or has underlying health conditions with symptoms, as well as people who have been close contacts of people who are positive for COVID-19.  “Anyone that has symptoms should also consider testing. It is important to note testing negative for COVID-19 right after being exposed does not mean you can’t become infected later during the incubation period. Individuals who are tested too soon after being exposed, are less likely to test positive because the viral load may be undetectable to the test. If anyone was possibly exposed to someone with COVID-19, and the test result is negative, they should remain at home for the full 14 days, to prevent spreading illness to others. For more information on how to get tested, visit  covid19.lacounty.gov/testing.”

BTW, in addition to my previous comments, please understand this is not in anyway unique to Wehoville and in reality it is common to most news sources I see in the country: regardless if it is internet, TV, radio or newspaper. It would be really amazing for Wehoville to be the one to brake this pattern of easy reporting and get some real data to the people. Not only does West Hollywood deserve it, so does all of the country. Thanks.

Initially, I very much appreciated your coverage of COVID-19 cases in WeHo and surrounding areas as well as I continue to enjor your general coverage of other local issues. However, just listing a logging of new cases as this “blog” has become resulting in an ever increasing sum is not only useless at this point, it falls into serving the paradigm of “panic reporting”. Where are the recovery statistics? Without recovery stats included in such a manner that a reader can understand the level of the ongoing pandemic on a local level, this just becomes 1) all but totally useless… Read more »

There are no recovery statistics available from the LA Health Department.. However one can compare confirmed infections with the number of those confirmed to have died to get a sense — but not a well-defined one — of the recovery rate. It is important for readers to know how many infections have been confirmed so as to know if the infection “curve” is flattening

Thank you. However, I have to admit that is a rather unsatisfying/unpalatable answer, but not due to or as a reflection on Wehoville.com. How about this: As the daily reporting is largely a rote statistical report, would it be good to add a boilerplate paragraph about the lack of ability for recovery reporting? And to also indicate if such a situation is problematic for readers they should complain to source “X” to advocate the reporting requirements be updated to improve this? I do not believe any of your readers believe the pandemic will go away any time soon. Rather, how… Read more »

Recovery reporting would require that the L.A. County Department of Public Health and all doctors and clinics that perform COVID-19 tests require those who test positive to report back to them to confirm that they have recovered, which I don’t think is practically possible. Another rough way of judging the degree of recovery is by noting that the number of deaths of WeHo residents from COVID-19 has remained steady at four since May 8, when there were 144 confirmed infections in West Hollywood. Today the Health Department reports 189 confirmed infections in West Hollywood. So 32 days later, 140 of… Read more »
