As of today, West Hollywood has 232 confirmed COVID-19 infections, an increase of two from yesterday’s count.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports 1,260 new infections countywide, bringing that total to 88,490 as of today. The Health Department says there have been 34 new deaths related to infection with the COVID-19 virus, with a total of 3,205 deaths across the county so far.
The number of COVID-19 related deaths of West Hollywood residents remains at four. As of today, the Health Department has received the results of tests of 5,035 West Hollywood residents.
The number of confirmed infections in Beverly Hills as of today remains at 203. The number of confirmed infections in Culver City has increased by two to 191. The Hollywood neighborhood now has two new confirmed infections, bringing its total to 405. The Melrose neighborhood’s infections have increased by five to a total of 785.
The Health Department reports that there are 1,556 people who are hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness, with 26% of them in the intensive care unit and 18% on ventilators. Testing results now are available for over 990,000 individuals, with 8% of them testing positive.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the risk of widespread transmission, the best protection against COVID-19 continues to be to wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, self-isolate if you are sick, practice physical distancing, and wear a clean face covering when in contact with others from outside your household.
It’s important if someone thinks they could be positive for COVID-19 and are awaiting testing results, to stay at home and act as if they are positive. This means self-isolating for 10 days and 72 hours after symptoms and fever subside, or until they receive a negative result.
Residents are required to wear face coverings when outside their homes. However, face coverings are not required for children under two years of age, anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone who is otherwise unable to remove a face covering without assistance. Children between two- and eight-years-old should only wear face coverings with adult supervision.
Such coverings have been determined to reduce the likelihood that an infected person can transmit the COVID-19 virus through the air by coughing or sneezing or even talking. Some people who are infected may be unaware of it and not showing symptoms at first.
