The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health today announced 2,741 newly confirmed COVID-19 infections and 50 new deaths.
As of today, 2,218 people infected with the virus are in the hospital with 26% of them in the intensive care unit and 18 on ventilators.
With today’s count, there have been 161,673 confirmed infections in Los Angeles County so far and there have been 4,154 COVID-19 related deaths.
The continuing growth in infections and hospitalizations have led Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to say Los Angeles is “on the brink” of a new shutdown order. While Garcetti’s order would not apply to the City of West Hollywood, the fact that he is considering it is likely to prompt the county Health Department to also consider a new shutdown, which would apply to WeHo.
The Health Department today reports 394 confirmed infections among West Hollywood residents, an increase of five from yesterday’s count. The Health Department continues to report that only four West Hollywood residents have died from the virus. The number of infections in Beverly Hills as of today is 502, an increase of six from yesterday. To date there have been eight COVID-19 related deaths in Beverly Hills. The number of confirmed cases in Culver City is 293, an increase of six from Monday. Twenty-seven people in Culver City have died from virus-related illnesses.
In the Melrose neighborhood to the south of West Hollywood the number of confirmed infections is now 1,230, up 16 from yesterday. And in the Hollywood neighborhood confirmed infections has increased by 17 n to a total of 738.
One way the virus can be transmitted is through a cough, a sneeze or even through air that comes from the mouth when someone talks. For that reason, residents must wear face coverings when out in public and can be cited for not doing so. The citations come with a $250 fine and a $50 administrative fee.
