While older people are more likely to die from an infection with the COVID-19 virus, now younger people are more likely to be diagnosed with it.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health today reported that residents between the ages of 18 and 49 make up nearly 60% of all new COVID-19 cases. Those between the ages of 30 and 49 have the highest rate of infections of any other age group, a rate that tripled to 1,122 cases per 100,000 from the beginning of June to July 24.
Younger people also are being hospitalized more. The Health Department reports that those between the ages of 30 and 49 account for 30% of hospitalizations. The percentage of hospital patients who are between the ages of 18 and 29 has more than doubled.
In its daily announcement of COVID-19 infections, the Health Department today announced 1,768 newly confirmed cases, bringing the total to date to 197,912. However, it repeated its earlier warning that that number is likely to be higher because of problems with the state’s electronic laboratory system, which transmits notices of infections from testing labs to local medical authorities. As of today another 68 people have died of COVID-19 related illnesses, bringing that total to date to 4,825.
The Health Department today reports five newly confirmed infections in West Hollywood, bringing the total to 440. The number of WeHo residents who have died of COVID-19 related illnesses remains at five. In Beverly Hills, the number of confirmed infections has increased by two to 547. The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Beverly Hills remains at 10. In Culver City the number of infections is now 330, an increase of four from yesterday’s count. The number of deaths remains at 29.
Hollywood has five newly confirmed infections, meaning its total to date is 894. The number of deaths remains at nine. The Melrose neighborhood has 20 newly confirmed infections, bringing its total to 1,487. The number of deaths remains at 54.

Residents who do not have COVID-19 can continue to call 211 for resources or more information.
As noted before, one way the virus can be transmitted is through a cough, a sneeze or even through air that comes from the mouth when someone talks. For that reason, residents must wear face coverings when out in public and can be cited for not doing so. The citations come with a $250 fine and a $50 administrative fee.

If you walk our WeHo neighborhoods … young people are the one’s “not” wearing masks. I think it would help if the City was giving out citations to non mask wearing people. I know it is a low priority, but maybe at night on Melrose & San Vicente by Zinque and Catch. It’s around the corner from the WeHo Sheriff’s Station. I have yet to see a mask citation being given out. Thanks All!!!
