Los Angeles County will go be under an overnight curfew beginning Saturday thanks to new orders issued by state officials to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
The state placed all counties which are already in the “purple” tier, the most restrictive tier of the state’s coronavirus monitoring system, under these new curfew orders. The curfew hours run 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., but exempts essential workers.
“The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement. “We are sounding the alarm. It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before and we must do it again.”
Some 41 of the state’s 58 counties, including most of Southern California, will be under the curfew, which will be in effect until at least Dec. 21.
These measures are all intended to limit the spread of the coronavirus as the state experiences a gigantic surge in cases.
West Hollywood saw an increase of 20 new cases while Los Angeles County saw a staggering 5,031 new cases. The city saw no new deaths but LA County had 29 new deaths.
The city now has a cumulative total of 847 cases of coronavirus with a total of eight deaths. LA County now has a cumulative total 353,232 with a total of 7,363 deaths.
LA County has not seen the virus transmission rates grow at such a huge pace before. The county saw 2,301 new cases on Tuesday, 3,994 new cases on Wednesday and now 5,031 cases on Thursday.
If the cases keep increasing at this pace, LA County may be placed under a new Safer at Home lockdown order, as happened in March, as early as Monday. Under that Safer at Home order, all non-essential businesses will close for at least three weeks.
County officials announced earlier this week that it would implement that new Safer at Home lockdown order if the county’s five-day average of COVID cases reaches 4,500 cases or if hospitalizations reach 2,000 a day.
In the meantime, LA County was already scheduled to implement new restrictions on Friday, including limiting indoor capacity to 25% at all non-essential businesses and outdoor service at restaurants and breweries to 50% capacity. It is unclear if the state’s new overnight curfew order will affect these LA County restrictions going into effect.
Below are the daily numbers for areas near West Hollywood:
- Beverly Hills – 7 new cases for a total of 870 cases.
- Culver City – 10 new cases for a total of 527 cases.
- Hollywood – 30 new cases for a total of 1,683 cases.
- Melrose neighborhood – 48 new cases for a total of 2,533 cases.
People must be paid to stay home. These half measures wont’ do anything!
I’m glad I live in CA and not SD
However, you can protest or riot anytime.
You should save save your breath. You might be needing it since you don’t seem to be taking the rapidly decaying situation very seriously.
Preach Jay. Preach!
Preach about what? The hypocrisy of enforcing lockdowns while allowing protests and riots?
I heard South Dakota doesn’t have any lockdown or mask mandates. You might be happier there?
Lockdowns are not the way to combat a virus with a 99% survival rate.
This is so arbitrary and unscientific. It won’t make any difference in the numbers as long as they keep testing more and more people with no symptoms with these inaccurate tests they will get more meaningless ‘cases’. It exempts non-essential workers? It is directed at ruining our economy for political reasons not making anyone safer or healthy. More for lease signs and empty buildings is what this will bring upon us.
Oh where to begin… It targets late night drinking at businesses and late night house parties- both known vectors, so not arbitrary. The tests are highly accurate, especially when confirmed with a different test or PCR test. Testing positive with no symptoms is not a meaningless case- you could still kill or sicken others even if you never show symptoms yourself, so probably helpful to know,if you care about anyone besides yourself. And if you do end up having symptoms later I think you might find it helpful to know too. It exempts essential workers. You got it backwards. Covid… Read more »
What a hypocrite . He parties and goes to close placed gathering and then issue curfew for people. I feel like a teenager with a dictator parents.
He blew it. He owned it, unlike someone else I could mention. Moving on!
And her name is Nancy Pelosi
I wish people would quit being so stupid and realize it’s this coronavirus Is For Real and stay home and wear your mask when you go in businesses
A voice in the wilderness! Thank you Chris- I look forward to seeing you on the other side of this moment!
You watch too much CNN Jay. You have this idealistic view that lockdowns will help our economy, even in the long run, they do not.
If you want to hide in your basement, that is fine, but no one should force others to. Life is full of risks, as an individual you weigh those risks and decide your behavior. Drunks can kill you on the highway, and people without masks may give you a virus, but everyone has different risk levels and should be able to make their own decision.
Spoken like a true Republican.
With a lot of commonsense…unlike two faced hypocrites who prance around hair salons and restaurants when no one is looking.
Does the name “Typhoid Mary” resonate with you at all?
Typhoid Nancy does. Just ask the hairdressers in San Francisco.
That’s rich, how many republicans have coronavirus now? Like 12? plus Chump Jr 🤣
This guy Jeffery works for the city of Weho.
Last time I checked, the City of West Hollywood very graciously lets you keep your 1st Amendment right to free speech when they hire you. So thoughtful of them!
