Los Angeles County surpassed 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single day for the first time, as it also continued setting records for hospitalizations. Meanwhile, West Hollywood is fast approaching the 1,000 mark for cumulative cases.

The county reported 10,528 new cases on Sunday, with 2,855 people hospitalized with COVID-19, both all-time highs. Of those hospitalized, 23% are in the ICU.

The 11-county Southern California region’s availability of ICU beds now stands at 10.3%, down from 12.5% on Saturday and 13.1% on Friday.

Because the number of available ICU beds is so low, the state is putting the Southern California region under a new lockdown order starting at midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning. This lockdown is scheduled to last three weeks, ending on Dec. 28, but could be extended if the COVID numbers don’t come down.

Los Angeles County now has a cumulative total of 449,851 new COVID-19 cases according to figures released by the LA County Department of Public Health. The county’s cumulative death toll now stands at 7,909, with 23 of those deaths coming on Sunday.

More than 3.9 million people in LA County have been tested for COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March and 11% of them have tested positive.

Wow. I’m blaming anyone that is still partying. I chose to highlight that study about erectile dysfunction as it pertains to gay men.

But please, continue feigning indignation in the comments. Everyone can see through it.
