Los Angeles County crossed two coronavirus milestones it would have preferred not to have crossed on Tuesday – more than 3,000 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and a cumulative total of 8,000 deaths.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced 64 more people dead from the coronavirus on Tuesday, pushing the county’s cumulative death toll to exactly 8,000 people.
The county reported 8,547 new cases on Tuesday, with 3,113 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those hospitalized, 24% are in the ICU.
The 11-county Southern California region’s availability of ICU beds now stands at 10.1%, down from 10.9% on Monday.

This lockdown is scheduled to last three weeks, ending on Dec. 28, but could be extended if the COVID numbers don’t come down.
