Coronavirus hospitalizations are down again on Friday, but Los Angeles County is on track to cross the milestone of one million people infected since the pandemic began sometime this weekend.
There are 7,715 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Friday. That’s 191 fewer people than were hospitalized on Thursday when there were 7,906 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
The state reported that LA County hospitals have 1,675 COVID patients in the ICU on Friday, roughly 22% of all the county’s hospitalized COVID patients.
LA County reported 15,051 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The county now has a cumulative total of 989,928 cases since the pandemic began in March.
County health officials announced 258 more people dead from the coronavirus on Friday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 13,489 people.
The highest number of deaths in a single day was 318 deaths recorded on Jan. 8; the second highest was 290 recorded on Dec. 31; the third was 288 recorded on Tuesday.
To date, about 5.15 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 18% are testing positive.
As of Thursday, more than 279,000 doses of vaccine including more than 219,000 first doses and more than 60,000 second doses have been administered to healthcare workers and residents and staff at skilled nursing facilities in Phase 1A.
The county is in the process of offering vaccinations to all remaining healthcare workers in Phase 1A before moving on to begin vaccinating people 65 and older. While many frontline healthcare workers have already received their first dose, health department officials estimate an additional 450,000 healthcare workers need to be vaccinated.
West Hollywood recorded 16 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,706 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total remains at 18 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 20 new cases for a total of 2,018 cases and no new deaths for a total of 19 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 11 new cases for a total of 751 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 35 deaths.
- Culver City – 24 new cases for a total of 1,660 cases and no new deaths for a total of 55 deaths.
- Hollywood – 53 new cases for a total of 4,171 cases and no new deaths for a total of 37 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 110 new cases total of 6,403 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 135 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 13 new cases for a total of 699 cases and 1 new death for a total of 8 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 2 new case for a total of 448 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 52 new cases for a total of 3,471 cases and no new deaths for a total of 94 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
