COVID numbers continued falling on Tuesday with new cases and number of people hospitalized all down for the third day in a row. However, deaths continue to be high with Los Angeles County crossing the grim threshold of 14,000 deaths since the pandemic began.
At the same time, the county expanded access to vaccinations.
In addition to the vaccination center now being offered by the city of Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium, reported to be the largest capacity vaccine site in the nation, LA County opened five new large vaccination sites on Tuesday. Those sites are at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Cal State Northridge, the Pomona Fairplex, the L.A. County Office of Education in Downey and the Forum in Inglewood.
County officials also expanded access to the vaccine Tuesday, allowing all residents 65 and over to begin making vaccination appointments and start receiving the inoculations on Wednesday.
County health officials announced 186 more people dead from the coronavirus. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 14,122 people.
The highest number of deaths in a single day was 318 deaths, which was recorded on Jan. 8.
There are 7,322 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Tuesday. That’s six fewer people than were hospitalized on Monday when there were 7,328 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
According to the state, there are currently 1,693 people are in the ICU with COVID in LA County.
LA County reported 7,902 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,031,874 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, about 5.266 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 17 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,770 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total is 21 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 6 new cases for a total of 2,070 cases and no new deaths for a total of 20 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 1 new cases for a total of 769 cases and 1 new death for a total of 36 deaths.
- Culver City – 25 new cases for a total of 1,757 cases and 1 new death for a total of 59 deaths.
- Hollywood – 52 new cases for a total of 4,358 cases and 1 new death for a total of 40 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 50 new cases total of 6,645 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 140 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 11 new cases for a total of 733 cases and 1 new death for a total of 9 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 4 new case for a total of 469 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 27 new cases for a total of 3,609 cases and 1 new death for a total of 97 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
