Wednesday Numbers Show Hospitalizations, New Cases Continue Downward Trend, but Deaths Remain High

COVID numbers in Los Angeles County continued falling on Wednesday, although deaths remains high. However, deaths are always the last thing to fall in pandemic situations like this.

County health officials announced 256 more COVID-related deaths on Wednesday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 17,308  people.

The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day in the county is 318 deaths, recorded on Jan. 8, while the second highest is 316 deaths, which occurred on Jan. 30.

There are 5,165 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Wednesday. That’s 94 fewer people than were hospitalized on Tuesday when there were 5,259  people hospitalized.

The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098  people hospitalized.

The state reported there are currently 1,354 people in the ICU in LA County.     

LA County reported 5,189 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,129,503 cases since the pandemic began in March.

To date, more than 5.543 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.

West Hollywood recorded 15 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,963 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total is 24 deaths.

Below are the numbers for areas near West Hollywood:

  • Beverly Hills – 10 new cases for a total of 2,269 cases and no new deaths for a total of 23 deaths.
  • Carthay neighborhood – 2 new cases for a total of 839 cases and 4 new deaths for a total of 49 deaths.
  • Century City – 2 new cases for a total of 538 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 11 deaths.
  • Culver City – 9 new cases for a total of 1,937 cases and no new deaths for a total of 69 deaths.
  • Hollywood – 22 new cases for a total of 4,859 cases and 1 new death for a total of 53 deaths.
  • Melrose neighborhood – 36 new cases total of 7,312 cases and 3 new deaths for a total of 167 deaths.
  • Miracle Mile – 3 new cases for a total of 822 cases and 1 new death for a total of 14 deaths.
  • Park La Brea – 2 new cases for a total of 519 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
  • Santa Monica – 19 new cases for a total of 3,971 cases and 4 new deaths for a total of 122 deaths.

The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border. 

The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
