Hospitalizations in Los Angeles County continue falling but deaths remain high on Friday. However, the county is making slow but steady progress in getting people vaccinated.
More than 1.05 million vaccine doses have been administered in the county to date, including just more than 104,000 second doses, according to Dr. Paul Simon, chief science officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
That means about 11% of the county’s population of people aged 16 and older has received the first dose of the vaccine, while 2.6% have been fully vaccinated with both doses.
There are 4,796 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Friday. That’s 194 fewer people than were hospitalized on Thursday when there were 4,990 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
The state reported there are currently 1,276 people in the ICU in LA County.
County health officials announced 226 more COVID-related deaths on Friday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 17,764 people.
The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day in the county is 318 deaths, recorded on Jan. 8, while the second highest is 316 deaths, which occurred on Jan. 30.
LA County reported 4,761 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,138,764 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, more than 5.57 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded five new cases for a cumulative total of 1,981 cases since the pandemic began. The city had one new death; the cumulative death total is 25 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 17 new cases for a total of 2,293 cases and no new deaths for a total of 23 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 1 new case for a total of 841 cases and no new deaths for a total of 48 deaths.
- Century City – no new cases for a total of 539 cases and no new deaths for a total of 11 deaths.
- Culver City – 8 new cases for a total of 1,952 cases and 1 new death for a total of 70 deaths.
- Hollywood – 16 new cases for a total of 4,895 cases and no new deaths for a total of 53 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 34 new cases total of 7,386 cases and 1 new death for a total of 168 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 2 new cases for a total of 831 cases and no new deaths for a total of 14 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 5 new cases for a total of 526 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 20 new cases for a total of 4,010 cases and 1 new death for a total of 123 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
