The City of West Hollywood is in the midst of creating a new Social Justice Task to help identify social and racial inequities/issues and make policy recommendations to the City Council about such issues.
The Social Justice Task Force will be made up of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community members who live, work or own businesses in West Hollywood. Creating the Task Force is the idea of recently sworn in City Councilmember Sepi Shyne.
The Task Force will consist of nine members — one direct appointee from each of the five Councilmembers and four at-large appointees. People who are interested in being on this Task Force should submit an application to the City Clerk’s office by Feb. 22 to be considered.
Applications will be reviewed by city staff as well as the Councilmembers. Appointments to the Task Force should be announced by the end of April.
The Social Justice Task Force is currently scheduled to meet for 12 months and then disband. However, the Task Force may be extended or adapted beyond that. Several of the city’s standing advisory boards, including the Transgender Advisory Board, began as task forces or working groups.
