COVID case numbers in Los Angeles County continue heading down on Friday, but officials also warn people must remain vigilant in protecting themselves to keep this downward trend headed down.
Officials say people must continue wearing masks and socially distancing themselves. It is especially important over the long Presidents’ Day weekend given that more contagious strains of the virus are spreading through the county.
There are 3,426 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Friday according to that state. That’s 178 fewer people than were hospitalized on Thursday when there were 3,604 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
The state reported there are currently 1,032 people in the ICU.
County health officials announced 137 more COVID-related deaths on Friday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 18,789 people.
The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day in the county is 318 deaths, recorded on Jan. 8, while the second highest is 316 deaths, which occurred on Jan. 30.
LA County reported 3,497 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,161,773 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, more than 5.66 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 5 new cases for a cumulative total of 2,034 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total is 26 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 10 new cases for a total of 2,352 cases and 25 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 3 new case for a total of 851 cases and 49 deaths.
- Century City – 3 new cases for a total of 551 cases and 12 deaths.
- Culver City – 5 new cases for a total of 2,013 cases and 74 deaths.
- Hollywood – 18 new cases for a total of 5,006 cases and 55 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 12 new cases total of 7,539 cases and 177 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 4 new cases for a total of 859 cases and 14 deaths.
- Park La Brea – no new cases for a total of 534 cases and 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 21 new cases for a total of 4,136 cases and 127 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
