COVID hospitalizations in Los Angeles County were up slightly on Wednesday. The rise is minor at this point — just 6 people — but it is something to keep an eye on.
This is the second time in the past week that hospitalizations saw a slight rise. On March 18, hospitalizations rose by 4 people after weeks of steadily declining numbers. However, the next day, hospitalizations resumed falling again.
A second slight rise in a week could be mere blip, but could also be a sign of a new surge.
There are 719 people currently in the hospital in Los Angeles County according to county health officials. That’s 6 more than on Tuesday when there were 713 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
There are currently 169 people in the ICU, according to the state, down from 180 on Tuesday. The county’s total ICU capacity is about 2,500 beds.
County health officials announced 92 more COVID-related deaths on Wednesday. The cumulative death toll in LA County is 22,960 people.
The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day occurred on Jan. 8 with 318 deaths. The second highest occurred on Jan. 30 with 316 deaths.
LA County reported 666 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,215,736 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, almost 6.03 million people in the county have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Wednesday’s daily positivity rate was 1.7%.
West Hollywood recorded 7 new cases; the cumulative total is 2,210 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total is 35 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – no new cases for a total of 2,574 cases and 34 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 2 new cases for a total of 897 cases and 64 deaths.
- Century City – no new case for a total of 586 cases and 12 deaths.
- Culver City – 2 new cases for a total of 2,135 cases and 96 deaths.
- Hollywood – 7 new cases for a total of 5,358 cases and 67 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 4 new case total of 7,997 cases and 201 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 1 new case for a total of 947 cases and 15 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 2 new cases for a total of 591 cases and 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 13 new cases for a total of 4,539 cases and 156 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
