Man Stabbed to Death in His Backyard Near Beverly Hills; Suspect Found Dead

A man was stabbed to death in his backyard Monday near Beverly Hills and the suspect was found dead of an apparent suicide.

Police responded to a reports of a residential burglary about 5:30 p.m. when they found a man’s body, CBS2 reported.

The home was in the 6600 block of Maryland Drive, near San Vicente and Wilshire boulevards, about a mile south of the West Hollywood border.

Preliminary reports indicated that the man was in his backyard when a man entered his property and proceeded to stab him, Officer Mike Lopez with the Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Division said.

The suspect then jumped a wall and attempted to hide in a nearby guest house, according to ABC7.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.

Police established a perimeter around the residence and attempted to persuade the suspect to surrender, ABC7 reported.

Officers threw pepper-spray grenades through the windows of the guest house after negotiations failed. They entered the guest house and found the suspect dead of an apparent suicide, according to ABC7.

“What we can say is we have two different scenes,” LAPD Detective Sean Kinchla told CBS2. “We are not sure if they are related, but that’s what we are going to try and do right now and see if they’re connected.

“There’s one person deceased at each location, and we are not searching for anyone at this time.”

Neighbors of the victim told Fox11 a belligerent homeless man was jumping fences of homes in the area and was confronted by victim.

Lopez said the LAPD could not confirm Fox11’s information regarding the suspect.

The property the suspect was found dead at was two houses away from where the victim was found, KCAL9 reported.
