Beyond The Headlines: THE FALLOUT FROM THE WEHO SANTA PALM CAR WASH RAID!

Juan Carlos Delgado, whom I have fondly called JC for decades, now finds himself trapped in an ICE facility in downtown Los Angeles. This is a man who has dedicated thirty years of his life to serving our WeHo community, a man who has become an integral part of our city. Finding where he is being held was a cruel scavenger hunt; the location lies hidden away in the cold depths of the back side of the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building, obscured by its unclear address that hides the suffering within. It is a bitter irony that this building honors Edward Roybal, the first Latino American elected to the Los Angeles City Council, who served as a beacon of hope from 1949 to 1962, and later represented parts of downtown and East Los Angeles for fifteen terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1963 to 1993.

For over three decades, JC has worked tirelessly on his feet even under the blazing sun at The Santa Palm car wash, scrubbing away dirt and grime while serving our community. This relentless labor has taken a toll on his body, leaving him with severe gout—an agonizing and complex form of arthritis characterized by intense pain, swelling, and redness in his feet from a buildup of uric acid in his system.

ICE planned the raid at the Santa Palm car wash on July 4th, targeting undocumented workers in our sanctuary city. In the ensuing chaos, all the employees rushed to a makeshift safe room. The pain in his feet caused JC to fall, separating him from his co-workers long enough for ICE to capture him.

Throughout his life, Juan Carlos has always fulfilled his role as a tax-paying member of society, a man who has never once known the cold grip of the law. He is a devoted father to his American daughters, who live in Los Angeles, and a guiding light in their lives. Yet, as I speak of him, he endures this unbearable torment, reduced to a mere pawn in a system that often overlooks the humanity of those who contribute so selflessly to our community.

Now, JC’s life has transformed into a harrowing nightmare. He is crammed into a small, dim holding cell with fellow detainees, many of whom have been suffering in silence since before the raid on WeHo. He is denied access to his essential medication. The facility is kept agonizingly cold, stripping away any lingering warmth or hope. They lie on hard, unforgiving floors without blankets, robbed of even the most basic comforts and dignity. There is no privacy, no mattresses, no showers—only a single toilet for all to share, an ever-present reminder of their dehumanization. Their meals are sparse and heartbreaking: a solitary burrito for breakfast and, as if to mock their plight, milk and cookies for dinner. This is not a place for humans; it’s a place that strips away their humanity. He waits in that cell, stripped of due process, facing the fate of being sent to a country he hasn’t seen in decades, leaving behind the family he loves in Los Angeles.

JC’s suffering serves as a glaring testament to the urgent need for political change. It calls us to recognize that behind every statistic is a person—a life filled with dreams, love, and tireless contributions to the community around them. We must confront the painful reality that innocence does not shield one from injustice, and that the weight of human suffering can no longer be ignored.

Thank you for sharing JC’s story. It’s heartbreaking, infuriating, and sadly not unique. Yes, entering the country without authorization is a legal violation. But reducing this entire issue to legality misses the bigger picture. JC is not a criminal or a threat. He is a father, a neighbor, and a hardworking member of the community who has spent decades contributing to society. Like many others in his position, he has paid taxes, raised American children, and shown up for the kind of labor that keeps cities running. And let’s be honest about the so-called legal path to citizenship. ICE has… Read more »

How exactly did he pay his taxes without a valid SSN? This is not a victimless crime. When SSNs are stolen from living American citizens, the victims can suffer financial and emotional hardship. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) may even demand that victims pay taxes on wages earned by the undocumented individual using their stolen SSN. Victims may have to hire an attorney to fight this costing thousands of dollars.

There was a “safe room” at the Santa Palm Car Wash? What??? That’s not aiding and abetting?

No, it’s not. It’s protecting innocent people from unwarranted discrimination & abuse by the U.S. government. All immigrants who’ve been working in a car wash for 20+ years & more, deserve a debt of gratitude from the American people. They are taken for granted. They have served the communities they work in faithfully & without complaining about the hardships of such low paying, thankless & dead-end jobs that no one else will do. To treat them as unnecessary & unwanted intruders into the lives of people who in reality really need them & their services in their daily lives, is… Read more »

Thank you for your kind comment—it reflects an empathetic perspective reminding me of the values of abolitionists with concern for human rights, rather than the views echoed by Southern supporters of the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act supporting bondage

You people have a lot of NERVE comparing ILLEGAL ALIENS to the sickening enslavement of black Americans …by guess who DEMOCRATS!!!
I suggest you think LONG and hard before insulting black America with your radicalized Far Left illegal alien FIRST BS!

I would suggest you read either the Dred Scott Supreme Court Decision or about The Oberlin Wellington Rescue or about the 1850 Federal Fugitive Slave Act or in the least consult a Black Historian or Academic before leaving a comment about what insults Black (please capitalize) Americans

Another WHITE Democrat Slave Master telling others how BLACK people should think and feel. What you need to do is stick to your business of whiteness before instructing others about blackness in America with your two -cents of comparing black Americans to illegal aliens. If I want your cheap grammar instructions I’ll ask for it.

Joe, Thank you for your comments. You remind me that everyone gets old but not everyout grows up. As much as I love an intellectual debate, this ends our dialog, I simply can’t debate someone completely unarmed as yourself. If this comment went over your head consider the words of Pee Wee Herman, “I know you are but what am I…enjoy living with that volume of anger and hate

What many people don’t understand is that so many of these immigrants from Central America got only a fourth or fifth grade education. And many of them come here not to find necessarily an easier life for themselves, but a better life both for their children and for their families that are back in their countries. Having taught ESL to adult immigrants, I knew that many would get up at 4 a.m.to work terrible jobs, sometimes two a day, and then come home, take a shower, and come to school four nights a week to try to learn English and… Read more »

Well guess WHAT, 5 billion other people in shoes worse off than them would like to do the same thing. WHERE is the concern for POOR AMERICANS whose wages are depressed by illegal aliens, and the crime that moves into POOR American communities. The degraded, over populated schools. I am sick to death of the pompous “the poor illegal aliens”. How many did you INVITE into your home? Exactly how much a month EXTRA are you paying for them. Democrats should be made to pay an extra sanctuary illegal alien tax instead of stealing tax dollars meant for Americans. Fix… Read more »

There must be a severely violent uprising first of all to stop these kidnappings, and secondly to fight against the conditions under which of these people are kept. And they shouldn’t be “kept “at all. If it takes a civil war to stop this, where do we sign up?

Everybody has a “personal” story and it can be told in a way to elicit whatever emotion the writer chooses. It’s curious that this man never bothered to do anything more in his three decades here to increase his skills to provide better for his family than to work in a carwash. He had to draw heavily on public services to do it. Even if his only crime was to enter the country illegally, which in most countries of the world is a serious one, he has not paid his own way. In many parts of the U.S. carwash jobs… Read more »

The lack of compassion in what you’re saying is one of the most vile things I’ve ever read. I don’t know who you are, and it would be illegal to threaten you, but good God, if there were a way to severely punish you, I would take delight in hearing all about it and preferably watching it and making video of it so that I could jack off to it and I would cum harder the more gruesome and agonizing and it is. I hope you get the karma punishment you deserve.

Shaming a man who spent 30 years doing hard, honest work because he didn’t “do more” ignores the reality of what undocumented people are actually allowed to do. He likely didn’t qualify for better-paying jobs or public services. The assumption that JC “drew heavily on public services” also isn’t backed by fact. Most undocumented individuals do not qualify for the vast majority of public benefits. Yet they still pay taxes through payroll, sales, and property taxes (directly or indirectly through rent). They contribute far more than they receive, often with no safety net. Teenagers not getting jobs isn’t about immigrants.… Read more »

Immigration has ALWAYS picked up illegal aliens no matter where they are, until the backstabbing Democrats in the 1990s spit in Americans face. Get use to it. That era of Democrat Confederate Fraud is over!

Bless your little misinformed heart. The “hard truth” is that undocumented immigrants like JC are not eligible for most social services – no welfare, no food stamps, no Medicare. But they do pay billions in taxes each year, including into Social Security, which they’ll never collect from. That’s not “sucking the system,” that’s subsidizing it.
If you’re angry about handouts, direct that rage at the billion-dollar corporations and wealthy tax dodgers who actually drain public resources, not the guy scrubbing cars in the sun for 30 years.
Facts > feelings. Even for you.

Are we really saying here in the year 2025 we have to maintain the status quo of illegal immigration in the United States because we need little children to pick marijuana or old men to wash cars in California?

Yes. We need immigrant labor to do the hard but media jobs of washing cars. That man committed no crime, and is being subjected to extreme torture. If you defend this, even a little bit, you deserve the worst punishment imaginable. And I hope you get it.

There is Ham again; with his xenophobic interlaces – unable to comprehend (like other comments ) that legal and illegal immigrants actually pay over 11 billion in taxes. None of them actually know what the status is of these human beings going to work daily, dutifully while providing their US born kids and family a chance of education and life they themselves never had. One has to revoke empathy and compassion to make these nasty judgmental responses you so easy “voice” hiding behind anonymity; because you still can’t full-blown make your heartfelt dislike known against anyone you feel is not… Read more »

You make the same twisted logic as Democrat Slavers did. They LOVE to ignore the law when it doesn’t suit their agenda.
Bet you won’t pay for them with your own money. Bet you won’t take a few into your home. And I BET you won’t live in an area overwhelmed by illegal aliens…unless of course they are family members (that’s always the case with pontificators.)

Let me support your great comment with a historical observation; this administration supported State Rights over Federal legislation in the case of abortion but in the case of our free sanctuary State (like the pre-civil war free states) the administration ignores our States rights while we contribute more to the GNP that any other state and Trump has illegal employees as recently as 2024. How do spell that H word?

Joe
Joe

Let me support your ignorance. Immigration is federal law, abortion is not, has never been. Your “Sanctuary BS” is nothing more than Democrat political elite using imported Slaves to steal HOUSE seats, which is exactly why and how they crated the sanctuary scam.
Furthermore, California is BROKE (vs. your CNN education) Its debt is 1.6 trillion dollars because Democrats burdened generations with the scam of promising state unions enormous pensions that the state will NEVER be able to pay…for votes.
Keep tryin, Gen. Lee.
