The City of West Hollywood is partnering with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) to launch a bus lane enforcement pilot program on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, designed to keep bus lanes and stops free of parked vehicles. This initiative builds on Metro’s earlier effort, which began in November 2024 with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) in Los Angeles, featuring a 60-day warning period that West Hollywood will now adopt.
To ensure the community is informed, Metro and West Hollywood are rolling out a comprehensive outreach campaign. Details are available on the city’s news page at www.weho.org/news, through e-notifications for subscribers at www.weho.org/email, and via digital community service announcements displayed at transit shelter bus stops and pedestrian kiosks across the city. The enforcement will target N. La Brea Avenue, covering both northbound and southbound lanes from Fountain Avenue to Romaine Street, a key corridor for local transit.
Starting July 1, a 60-day warning period will allow motorists who illegally park in these zones to receive mailed notices, alerting them that fines will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Violations will carry a starting penalty of $293, aimed at ensuring buses can move efficiently and reduce delays for passengers. The program utilizes advanced technology, with front-facing cameras equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) installed on select buses. These cameras detect parked vehicles, document violations, and send evidence to West Hollywood for parking enforcement review, resulting in citations mailed to vehicle owners.
Data management is a priority, with evidence of violations retained for up to six months before destruction, while non-violating images are deleted within 15 days to protect privacy. This enforcement also addresses accessibility, particularly for passengers with disabilities, whose ability to board or exit buses can be hindered by blockages. Metro anticipates significant improvements in on-time performance, enhancing the reliability of public transit services in West Hollywood.
For support, drivers receiving warnings or citations can contact the Customer Citation Services Center at (888) 736-7697 during business hours or email westhollywood@t2systems.com with inquiries. This program reflects West Hollywood’s commitment to improving transit efficiency and safety, building on recent community-focused initiatives.
So it sounds like after approximately 6 months all evidence of the violation is destroyed. Refuse to pay it for 7 months then ask for proof of violation, no proof no violation, case dismissed.
